SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Administrator/Administrative Asst., the Food Service Director shall ensure that all Members receive nutritious, hygienically prepared food and have a clean, well-maintained environment at the Center.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be fluent in English and Spanish
- Have a high school diploma or equivalency.
- Be knowledgeable of State and Local food service regulations.
- Have strong interpersonal skills.
- Have the ability to read and follow detailed instructions.
- Have an appreciation of the importance and understanding of maintaining a clean and orderly environment for Members and employees.
- Be flexible, reliable and punctual.
- Be able to lift articles and be able to bend and stretch without physical constraint.
- Be able to work in an environment that is at times warm and humid.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan/contract monthly diet schedules, allowing for alternative foods based on Member preferences, the Dietary Consultant’s recommendations, and the standards set forth by the Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences, National Research Council.
- Order and/or receive all food supplies.
- Ensure that all food supplies are stored appropriately.
- Have an understanding of the prevention of food borne disease transmission.
- Maintain a current diet manual.
- Post a daily menu, with at least one alternative choice.
- Prepare and/or serve the food at the Center.
- Maintain hygienic standards during all food handling.
- Serve food to Members at Snack and Meal times.
- Following the Dietary Consultant’s recommendations, ensure that each Member receives the correct serving portion of an appropriate diet for his/her medical condition.
- Participate in the cleanup of any dirty dishes and all equipment used in the preparation of food.
- Maintain all logs, assuring that proper temperatures are maintained for refrigerator, dishwashing machine and all other equipment as required by State and/or Federal regulations.
- Ensure that all trash is properly contained and meets regulations for disposal.
- If local regulations warrant, ensure compliance with all recycling mandates.
- Establish and use a quality assurance monitoring mechanism.
- Participate on staff committees as needed.
- Participate in in-service education.
- Abide by the established policies and procedures of the Center.
- Have a full understanding of fire, emergency and safety procedures.
- Keep Member and Center information confidential.
